Galvanized Pipe Shelving Unit

Galvanized Pipe Shelves

Today we’re getting down to business with this bathroom makeover. That’s right. The shelves. I’ve had so many people ask me how I made them and today is your lucky day because I’m going to tell you!     Let’s start with the problem:     Our bathroom was ugly, drab and cramped. It needed a whole new look. My plan for renovation involved taking out the vanity and the eye-sore of a shelf. This meant I would need a new storage solution.   I’d seen a few galvanized shelving units on Pinterest and Houzz that I really … Continue reading

Easy Baseboard Installation {a.k.a. enough with the ugly wall cove!}

Baseboard Install Title

Today we’re talking about baseboard. When I installed our new vinyl plank flooring, I didn’t want to just put in that old vinyl wall cove.  It’s the usual, cheap bathroom and kitchen baseboard.  But I wanted things to look a little more upscale.  And I wanted to be able to totally seal every edge – which is hard with vinyl wall base. So I went to Lowes {their associates are more helpful and their prices are lower than other home stores} and picked up some pre-painted MDF baseboard lengths.  I chose the 4 inch baseboard because it was tall … Continue reading

Five Favorite Friday – Door Painting Tips

Painting Interior Doors

I am in the process of painting the hollow core doors and trim in our hallway.  They have always been builder grade tan, but I dream of white doors, white trim, white casing and a hallway that is bright {It’s kind of a dungeon hallway right now}.   I could have just purchased new doors, casings and moldings that are already white and installed them, but I’m no Rockefeller and those doors cost a pretty penny.  The doors I have are in perfect working condition.  They just needed a little cosmetic enhancement.   As I’ve been slowly painting a … Continue reading

DIY Personalized Sharpie Mugs

title

I’ve seen images all over Pinterest of lovely white mugs personalized with a sharpie marker.  Apparently, if you bake them for a bit it seals in the marker and it will never wash off.  Such a great way to create a personalized gift without breaking the bank.   My question has always been…does it work on colored mugs?  I’ve only seen the project on white dishes.  Does it not work on dishware that has already been painted or colored?   Well, I set out to find out.  I found these adorable little mugs at Target on sale for $1 … Continue reading

Family Purpose Statement Sign

IMG_4163

I finally did it!  I cleared a space in our crazy, overstuffed garage and I finished a project!   And this is one of my favorite ones, by far.   A few months ago Colin and I sat down and wrote out a family purpose statement {you can read about that process HERE}.  It’s not anything profound, but it represents who we are, who we want to be and what we believe is important.   A few weeks after that I went to The Rebuilding Center with my sister and we found some amazing old {really old!} wooden headboards that … Continue reading

One Of Those Days

IMG_3503

Have you ever had one of those days? You know, when you’re feeling really overwhelmed because you have so many things to do so you sit down to tackle your biggest project and EVERYTHING GOES WRONG!!! And I mean everything. I was trying to sew my new banquette cushions together so I could clear the horrible mess of foam, fabric, old cushions, and random sewing things out of the dining room in the hope that I could use the space {and time} to get ready for my two looming bazaars {oh, and to eat too}. I was getting ready to … Continue reading

Napkin Pillows PLUS a Giveaway!

IMG_3486

Today I have a super easy project and a great giveaway from one of my very favorite stores on the planet! First, the project… Last week when I was InstaShopping at World Market I picked up some amazingly cute cloth napkins. Why napkins?  Because I need new pillows.  Stick with me here… Cloth dinner napkins really are such an easy go-to for making throw pillows.  They come in amazing colors and patterns and they are the perfect size.  It takes out the measuring and cutting – which is, by far, my least favorite part of sewing.  It was so hard … Continue reading

The Doors – Part One

IMG_3254

Last week I started an update on our hallway that I’ve been meaning to do for a long time.  But it’s one of the most intrusive and pain-in-the-rear DIY jobs known to man. I’m talking about painting doors and casings. I suppose it wouldn’t be such a problem if it didn’t take so long, make such a mess and remove the privacy from the most private rooms in the house {bedrooms and bathroom}.  I just painted two doors last week because Shiloh went to the zoo with grandma and wasn’t going to nap that day.  Seeing the door removing window … Continue reading

How To Make Tissue Paper Flowers

IMG_3115 title

Yesterday I showed you Ellie’s new tissue paper flower wall.  Today I will let you in on how to make these flowers yourself. They are great for room decor, but you can also make them for party decor or gift box toppers.  You could string them together to make an amazing garland, hang them from trees for beautiful backyard party decorations or use them as table decorations.  If you make very small versions, you can attach them to a stick or a pencil as their “stem” and have your kids give them to their teachers as gifts. Making tissue paper … Continue reading
