greetings.

hi welcome mat

Business has been booming for my Etsy store {which is always surprising to me}.  I’ve been getting so many orders for welcome mats that I can hardly keep up. So, what’s a girl to do? Make more, of course! I have always sold mats with four basic sayings on them.           I love these four mats, but I have been receiving a lot of requests for new sayings.  So, since there are about a hundred sayings swirling in my head and I don’t know which ones to choose, I’ll ask all of you – my genius … Continue reading

EPIC Project Reveal!

bathroom before and after with pipe shelving

You’ve been patiently waiting for weeks to see what my EPIC project is so without further ado, the GRAND UNVEILING…(imagine a curtain being lifted here)…       That’s right people, I tackled our main bathroom.  And believe me, it needed it.  It was so small you had to walk to the side of the toilet to close the door.  It was beige with yellow lighting and an ugly vanity with doors hung crooked.  It was yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yucky.   I had never touched the bathroom before because bathrooms take a lot of work.  There’s plumbing and electrical … Continue reading

InstaShopping – IKEA Style

Red IKEA locker console table

If you haven’t been to IKEA lately, you are sorely missing out.  If you don’t have one near you I am so very sorry for your deprivation.  It is cruel and unusual punishment.  I’ll petition the Swedes right away to start building and bring you their functional glory.   Last week Shiloh and I spent a chilly morning at our local IKEA.  He got to enjoy his favorite part: Smaland.  I got to enjoy my favorite part: Shiloh in Smaland.  I actually love running errands with my little guy.  But not spending all of my energy answering questions or explaining … Continue reading

Design Inspiration

final

Lately I’ve felt like I’ve been in a design rut.  It’s been a long time since I’ve overhauled a room.  I think back to school followed by the holidays puts a noticeable kink in my design plans.   Well, that’s all over now and I’ve been scouring houzz.com and Pinterest for examples of looks I love and new ideas to expand my design horizons.  I want to re-do my boys’ room, tweak my kitchen and finally overhaul our master bedroom.   Here are some ideas and looks I have found that I love.       Source: houzz.com via Heidi … Continue reading

InstaShopping – World Market Style

I have found that I’m a terrible shopper.  Well, not a terrible shopper – just a terrible buyer.  I wander through stores eyeing their beautiful things, then I walk out empty handed.  I love “picking things out” but I don’t love forking over my money.  So I’m more of a Window Shopper.  I’m sure my husband and my budget are ok with that. But I wanted to somehow share with you the joy of looking.  I mean, there are really gorgeous things out there.  And maybe one of you is more committal than I am and will race out and … Continue reading

Five Favorite Friday – Inspiring Stores

urban outfitters

Everyone has their places of inspiration.  The windows they stand in front of.  The catalogs they wait for.  The stores they can’t help but wander through. These are mine. 5.  Urban Outfitters I don’t get to this store very often, but when I do I usually leave with clothes.  Online and in their catalog is where I fall in love with their home decor.  I would give up my tv for that United States Coffee Table.  Which means I would miss Downton Abbey.  That’s how much I love that table. What I like most about their selection is that it’s … Continue reading

How To Make Tissue Paper Flowers

IMG_3115 title

Yesterday I showed you Ellie’s new tissue paper flower wall.  Today I will let you in on how to make these flowers yourself. They are great for room decor, but you can also make them for party decor or gift box toppers.  You could string them together to make an amazing garland, hang them from trees for beautiful backyard party decorations or use them as table decorations.  If you make very small versions, you can attach them to a stick or a pencil as their “stem” and have your kids give them to their teachers as gifts. Making tissue paper … Continue reading

Tissue Paper Flower Wall

Last spring we moved my daughter into her own room and I’ve been trying to perfect it ever since.  It is clear that it will never be done.  I have too many ideas. One of the first ideas was a gallery wall.  It took me weeks to put it together and when I was finished I was neither here nor there about it.  I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t terrible either.  I figured someday I’d come up with something better.  And in the mean time she got some meaningful and original art on her walls.   But a few … Continue reading

What Should Eliza Look Like?

Eliza

Miss Eliza has been sitting in the garage since I bought her. She is a faded green velvet that is covered in cat hair.  The picture makes her look much more beautiful than she actually is.  Before she can move into the house she needs a new outfit. We’ve had too much going on for me to attempt to reupholster her.  But on my latest fabric store trip I found a lot of options for her.  I think she’s going to end up in our new master bedroom {we’re adding on to our house}. That means there is NO DECORATING … Continue reading

Five Favorite Friday – Stuff I Avoid

shabby-chic

I guess, technically, this isn’t a “favorite” list.  It’s a “not favorite” list.  But let’s not get nit picky.  {I just realized as I typed that phrase that it’s referring to lice.  What a terrible term!} I sat down last week to list my five favorite fall decorating ideas.  I couldn’t come up with any.  Thus, no Friday post last week.  I literally spent hours and hours on Pinterest and other blogs and could not find one single fall decorating idea that I could honestly list as my favorite.  And I realized that there are some very clear things I … Continue reading
