Family Share – A New Website for Families

Family Share Website

This post was sponsored by Family Share and I have been compensated for my review.  However, all opinions below are my own – 100% from this here noggin.  {Because everyone knows I just love to give my opinion.}  I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.    A few weeks ago I met some lovely people at SNAP! that have started a new website called Family Share.  It is a curated magazine site dedicated to strengthening families, building relationships and supporting one another as we raise our children.  It is full … Continue reading

Inside Boston: One Runner’s Story

rummer's story Boston Marathon

Many of you know that my sister, Holly, ran the Boston Marathon this year.  4-15-13.  Her experience at the race has marked her life.  Returning to life as usual has been difficult for everyone who experienced this tragedy, and it is no different for Holly.   Our stories are powerful and sometimes just giving words to our experiences can begin to heal our wounds and lift our burdens.   In an effort to heal and find some kind of closure she asked me if she could tell her story here. ______________________________________________________________________________     Although the terrorist attack in Boston is not … Continue reading

Hometown Traveler – Circuit Bouldering Gym

Tales of a Hometown Traveler

Every Sunday my family stops the craziness of life, breathes deep and spends the day together.  It is our day of rest.  Our Sabbath.  We call it Sunday Funday.  We spend the day enjoying each other’s company, resting in the Lords goodness and heading out into our city to be hometown travelers. We love being tourists in our own hometown.  There is so much to see and do.  Portland, Vancouver and the surrounding areas are packed full of family friendly activities and adventures. Next week marks one year of Sunday Fundays and I just realized that I haven’t … Continue reading

What It’s Like to Lose a Dad

sc00002302

As I’ve been reading through my old posts this one caught me off guard.  I had forgotten I’d written it. Sometimes I’m thankful that my emotions over losing my dad have slowly mellowed.  But some days, for reasons I do not understand, I can take myself right back to that day when he left this world.  And I ache for all that I lost that day.  And I mourn all that I never got to experience. I realize that this post {that I wrote 3 years ago} doesn’t speak to everyone’s experience who’s lost a dad.  But it speaks mine. … Continue reading

They Really Love Each Other. Really.

I have loved looking through all of my old posts.  It kind of helps me as I look at my kids today and see how we have changed.  And how we haven’t. This is a post I wrote after Payton’s first week of Kindergarten.  When he started school he didn’t want to answer any questions about his day or tell me anything about class.  It made me sad because I felt like I was losing him a little bit…like he had this new thing I wasn’t a part of.  But then I realized that it was because he missed us.  … Continue reading

All Who Are Weary and Burdened

IMG_1082

There has been something on my heart to share with you all for a while now.  I haven’t done it up until now because I thought you might feel awkward or maybe I’d be sharing too much or I’d hear crickets in return.  I think I’ve reached the point that I’m ok with that, and I’m going to share anyway.   I know this is a huge break from the norm of projects and ideas and random stuff I love at Target.  But please bear with me.     So, here’s the deal.  My family could use some prayer.  In … Continue reading

Family Purpose Statement Sign

IMG_4163

I finally did it!  I cleared a space in our crazy, overstuffed garage and I finished a project!   And this is one of my favorite ones, by far.   A few months ago Colin and I sat down and wrote out a family purpose statement {you can read about that process HERE}.  It’s not anything profound, but it represents who we are, who we want to be and what we believe is important.   A few weeks after that I went to The Rebuilding Center with my sister and we found some amazing old {really old!} wooden headboards that … Continue reading

What Do You Really Want?

*********************************************************** Have you seen the previews for the new movie “Playing For Keeps“ with Gerard Butler and Jessica Biel?  {CLICK HEREif you want to check out the trailer.}  The tag line for the movie is “This holiday season, what are you playing for?”   As I sit here making my kids’ Christmas lists to email to extended family I was thinking about what I’m making our life about – what I’m really living for.  I mean, what would my Christmas list look like if I included what I really, really want, deep in my heart.   Have you ever … Continue reading
