Make an Instagram Gallery Wall

photo transfer meduim title

I love Instagram.  It is such a great way to chronicle day to day life.  The effects it gives pictures is right up my alley too, so I’ve been looking for a way to incorporate some of them in my decor.   Recently I got a box of goodies from Mod Podge that gave me a great Instagram idea.  You see, they have this great product called “Photo Transfer Medium” that can transfer photos from a piece of paper to virtually any surface {wood, metal, glass, fabric…probably rocks and plastic and cement too – if you ever wanted pictures … Continue reading

Etched Glass Art with Martha Stewart Crafts

Martha Stewart Etched Glass Art

I wrote this post as part of a sponsored campaign with Plaid Enterprises and The Blueprint Social. The opinions in this post are my own.   A few weeks ago I received a package from Plaid Crafts and Martha Stewart glass painting program.  They wanted me to try their Martha Stewart Glass Etching Creme and let you all know how it works.   At first I wanted to etch the mirror in our bathroom makeover, but that scared me a little too much {mirrors are spendy!}.  And, now that I see the final result of my framed mirror, I’m glad … Continue reading

DIY Personalized Sharpie Mugs

title

I’ve seen images all over Pinterest of lovely white mugs personalized with a sharpie marker.  Apparently, if you bake them for a bit it seals in the marker and it will never wash off.  Such a great way to create a personalized gift without breaking the bank.   My question has always been…does it work on colored mugs?  I’ve only seen the project on white dishes.  Does it not work on dishware that has already been painted or colored?   Well, I set out to find out.  I found these adorable little mugs at Target on sale for $1 … Continue reading

Faux Weathered Painted Wood Tutorial

IMG_4113

Yesterday I shared with you the Family Purpose Statement Sign I made.     And today I’m going to show you how I achieved the weathered treatment look of the wood.   Here is the old twin headboard I started with:     It was pretty stained and the finish was almost gone, but it was sturdy and well made.     The first thing I did was give it a good sanding.   I got out my palm sander and 100 grit sand paper and sanded off the rest of the finish so it was smooth beautiful wood again.  … Continue reading

How To Make Tissue Paper Flowers

IMG_3115 title

Yesterday I showed you Ellie’s new tissue paper flower wall.  Today I will let you in on how to make these flowers yourself. They are great for room decor, but you can also make them for party decor or gift box toppers.  You could string them together to make an amazing garland, hang them from trees for beautiful backyard party decorations or use them as table decorations.  If you make very small versions, you can attach them to a stick or a pencil as their “stem” and have your kids give them to their teachers as gifts. Tissue Paper Flower Wall

IMG_3192

Last spring we moved my daughter into her own room and I’ve been trying to perfect it ever since.  It is clear that it will never be done.  I have too many ideas. One of the first ideas was a gallery wall.  It took me weeks to put it together and when I was finished I was neither here nor there about it.  I didn’t love it, but it wasn’t terrible either.  I figured someday I’d come up with something better.  And in the mean time she got some meaningful and original art on her walls.   But a few … Continue reading

Make Statement Pillows With Fabric Markers

IMG_0771

I think I might have an unhealthy obsession with pillows. Possibly because they are so easy to make/change/upcycle. Or possibly because my husband has an unhealthy obsession with being comfortable.  All the time.  Everywhere.  So I stock our house with pillows so he can’t complain about our less comfortable pieces of furniture.  {Maybe I shouldn’t buy less comfortable pieces of furniture…} Anyway, a while ago I bought a bunch of plain white-ish IKEA pillows {GRANAT Cushions} on sale for $1.99 each {regularly $3.99}. They are fine and all, but I wanted to test the ways I could make them fancier … Continue reading

Colorful Drip Art

drips

Remember that empty wall space above my new favorite chair?   I wanted to fill the space with something I made myself.  And you all know how much I love color.  I saw a few drip paint projects on Pinterest that I just fell in love with, like THIS ONE, so I picked up my paints and got to work. I started with a big piece of half inch plywood that we had laying around our garage.  Then I grabbed my stash of acrylic paints and just started dripping.     I didn’t know how much paint I needed to … Continue reading

Easy Does It

IMG_1869

I’ve has about a hundred projects sitting around waiting for me to finish.  This month being “Finish Your Crapload of Unfinished Projects Month” has made me up and do something about it. One of the projects that has been on my list for a long time has been making a garland for Ellie’s room.  I just wanted something to pull everything together and complete the look.  {Curtains would help that too, I guess…} First I was planning a pennant banner like this one.   Source: chictip.com via Heidi on Pinterest   Then I decided to make a heart banner like … Continue reading
