Galvanized Pipe Shelving Unit

Galvanized Pipe Shelves

Today we’re getting down to business with this bathroom makeover. That’s right. The shelves. I’ve had so many people ask me how I made them and today is your lucky day because I’m going to tell you!     Let’s start with the problem:     Our bathroom was ugly, drab and cramped. It needed a whole new look. My plan for renovation involved taking out the vanity and the eye-sore of a shelf. This meant I would need a new storage solution.   I’d seen a few galvanized shelving units on Pinterest and Houzz that I really … Continue reading

Make an Instagram Gallery Wall

photo transfer meduim title

I love Instagram.  It is such a great way to chronicle day to day life.  The effects it gives pictures is right up my alley too, so I’ve been looking for a way to incorporate some of them in my decor.   Recently I got a box of goodies from Mod Podge that gave me a great Instagram idea.  You see, they have this great product called “Photo Transfer Medium” that can transfer photos from a piece of paper to virtually any surface {wood, metal, glass, fabric…probably rocks and plastic and cement too – if you ever wanted pictures … Continue reading

Easy Baseboard Installation {a.k.a. enough with the ugly wall cove!}

Baseboard Install Title

Today we’re talking about baseboard. When I installed our new vinyl plank flooring, I didn’t want to just put in that old vinyl wall cove.  It’s the usual, cheap bathroom and kitchen baseboard.  But I wanted things to look a little more upscale.  And I wanted to be able to totally seal every edge – which is hard with vinyl wall base. So I went to Lowes {their associates are more helpful and their prices are lower than other home stores} and picked up some pre-painted MDF baseboard lengths.  I chose the 4 inch baseboard because it was tall … Continue reading

Installing Luxury Vinyl Planks

finished floor

When we decided to redo our bathroom we knew we would have to replace the flooring.  We planned on taking out the vanity and replacing it with a pedestal sink, but we knew there was not flooring underneath, so we’d have to fix that somehow.   I thought for about two seconds about installing this super cool tile that looks like wood planks, but then I remembered that I wanted to finish this entire project in two weeks, so I scrapped that idea.  I decided I had to go with vinyl.   After shopping around I found what is … Continue reading

Etched Glass Art with Martha Stewart Crafts

Martha Stewart Etched Glass Art

I wrote this post as part of a sponsored campaign with Plaid Enterprises and The Blueprint Social. The opinions in this post are my own.   A few weeks ago I received a package from Plaid Crafts and Martha Stewart glass painting program.  They wanted me to try their Martha Stewart Glass Etching Creme and let you all know how it works.   At first I wanted to etch the mirror in our bathroom makeover, but that scared me a little too much {mirrors are spendy!}.  And, now that I see the final result of my framed mirror, I’m glad … Continue reading

DIY Personalized Sharpie Mugs

title

I’ve seen images all over Pinterest of lovely white mugs personalized with a sharpie marker.  Apparently, if you bake them for a bit it seals in the marker and it will never wash off.  Such a great way to create a personalized gift without breaking the bank.   My question has always been…does it work on colored mugs?  I’ve only seen the project on white dishes.  Does it not work on dishware that has already been painted or colored?   Well, I set out to find out.  I found these adorable little mugs at Target on sale for $1 … Continue reading

Faux Weathered Painted Wood Tutorial

IMG_4113

Yesterday I shared with you the Family Purpose Statement Sign I made.     And today I’m going to show you how I achieved the weathered treatment look of the wood.   Here is the old twin headboard I started with:     It was pretty stained and the finish was almost gone, but it was sturdy and well made.     The first thing I did was give it a good sanding.   I got out my palm sander and 100 grit sand paper and sanded off the rest of the finish so it was smooth beautiful wood again.  … Continue reading

How To Make Tissue Paper Flowers

IMG_3115 title

Yesterday I showed you Ellie’s new tissue paper flower wall.  Today I will let you in on how to make these flowers yourself. They are great for room decor, but you can also make them for party decor or gift box toppers.  You could string them together to make an amazing garland, hang them from trees for beautiful backyard party decorations or use them as table decorations.  If you make very small versions, you can attach them to a stick or a pencil as their “stem” and have your kids give them to their teachers as gifts. Making tissue paper … Continue reading

Quick DIY Zinc Letters

IMG_0706

Have you noticed all of the zinc letters around? They are in every catalog I am receiving {including the IKEA catalog…though IKEA doesn’t sell them}.  Many stores sell their versions of them in various fonts – most notably, Anthropologie: I love these letters.  They are industrial and rough and quirky.  And they made a statement.  But at $18 for one eight inch letter, I didn’t think the Anthropologie route was going to work for me. So I headed out to my trusty Anthropologie back up…JoAnn Fabrics. I picked up some cardboard letters for 99 cents each {they were on sale} … Continue reading

Task Master Job Board

IMG_1999

Ever since my kids were toddlers we’ve been trying to figure out how to teach them responsibility through chores.  We’ve always had chore charts for them, and still do.  Their rewards have changed from stickers to magnets to nickels to screen time.  Each new phase in their growing up has brought changes to our expectations and rewards. Our current system is pretty stable – as in there is no one complaining about it – which is good.  They are expected to make their beds, clean their rooms, pick up toys, and do two household chores every day.  In exchange they … Continue reading
